We had a wonderful turnout for Maryland Day a few weeks ago. Two experts from the Anne Arundel Genealogical Society helped visitors trace their roots. Visitors got a chance to learn more about the Carroll family tree as a great example. The trees get complicated quickly, and research always seems to turn up interesting stories and connections.

On Sunday, in spite of the blustery weather, 150 children enjoyed an Easter Egg hunt in the gardens. Thanks to the Knights of Columbus for sponsoring the fun.

Thanks to everyone for joining us. I always enjoy Maryland Day, it enlivens the house in advance of our season, which doesn’t truly start until June.

Fall has arrived and we are beginning to secure ths house for the winter months. That includes securing some funds for ongoing projects. This year we decided not to have an event to obtain donations, rather, we decided on a COUNTDOWN TO CHRISTMAS raffle. Tickets are $10 each or 3 for $25. Winners will receive valuable prize – CASH! $1000 for first prize, $500 for second and $250 for third. Pretty good prizes I think. Drawing is on 1 December at our candlelight concert.

Please consider buying a raffle ticket by contacting us at info@charlescarrollhouse.org

It has been a busy September, especially with numerous rehearsal dinners . We celebrated the Signer’s 275th birthday on the September 19 with a volunteer reception.

And, just last weekend there was a crab feast for a winner in the St. Mary’s Auction and the annual Parish picnic. I think the Signer (Charley we call him) and his family would appreciate the festivities.

Welcome! Today we begin a new mode of communication with our community of “house followers” , past , present and future. I’ll be writing on topics which involve the history of the Carroll family in Annapolis, and the Redemptorist period of the house as well as overall thoughts on colonial era history. So you know, I’m Tim Leahy, a volunteer guide at the House, and enjoy learning more about these topics every day from expert and amateur historians (like myself) every day. I’d be happy to answer any questions you have and to engage in discussion. You can also reach us at info@charlescarrollhouse.org if you want to have a private conversation.

This is my first effort at blogging and it was prompted by a recent recommendation from the experts at our Annapolis Visitors Bureau, and it should be interesting and exciting to all. So, look for future posts and I’ll respond promptly to you comments!
